INTRO Steelwood Concept designs and manufacture high qualitysteel and wood products with primarily focus towards the hospitality sector. Our use of wood is highly prioritized, and we only use FSC certified woods there ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Another benefit is that we use Nordic Oak which in itself, is food safe. We use of all wood and steel products that we purchase from our local suppliers – nothing goes to waste. Even packaging for products is carefully selected for good environmental considerations and we encourage everyone to dispose of packaging according to local regulations. COLORS Colors represent many things and for us individually it can even create a feeling or wake a memory from our past. Its safe to say that colors are a powerful thing. Here in Steelwood Concept we have chosen some colors that are familiar to us in our everyday life, like the two industrial gray colors and pushed the envelope on what actually gives a great look when its on lighter background, it works, it gives that exclusive look and lifts up the area. We also chosen some Nordic colors and pastel colors that ensures identity to your location, like the Light Pink that will call on all eyes in the room, or the Pearl Gold – talk about statement. Some colors come in shine 30 and others in mat, but in fine structure and know for its anti- fingerprint surface. If you have a special color you want, please reach out to us for bespoke version. COPENHAGEN SLIM LINE – FIXED LINE – FLEXI LINE Copenhagen is our most popular series, properly due to its large selection, options and aesthetic look. Copenhagen comes in three designs, from our thin and lighter version of a presentation frame, made for table or buffet use but can also be hung on the wall if you want to do that. We call it Slim Line Next is our Fixed Line, a thicker frame with fixed shelves and comes in several sizes, and also a few for hanging on the wall. Last one is our flexible version, here you can easily change the shelves height, its angle and even the quantity of shelves inside each section. P R O J E C T I N T E R V I E W Steelwood Concept's multifunctional buffets were exactly what Scandic's F&B director needed. At Scandic Spectrum, the modern hotel interior provides the opportunity to run a conference banquet, run an event in one of the hotel's event are- as and look after the regular restaurant part at the same time. With mobile kitchen solutions and 'rooms within rooms', you can turn them up and down as needed, and Steelwood Concept's multifunctional buffets fit perfectly into this set-up, where flexibility is a key word. Scandic Spectrum with its 632 rooms covers - as the name suggests - the entire spectrum. From the very large event space on the ground floor, which can also be divided into smaller separate rooms, to meeting rooms at the top of the hotel with a view and break-out areas outside and inside. Gastronomically, the hotel also embraces a wide range and offers both gourmet and stone-oven pizza in the two restaurants Ansvar and Nordbo, where guests can also board a delicious breakfast buffet every day and get the day kick-started with a solid selection of home-baked bread, breakfast cereals, fruit, and yoghurt - and this is where, among other things, the buffets from Steelwood Concept have an important function. We didn't just get a standard solution, we got a custom-made solution, particular due to Henrik Bodhi for the good cooperation and dialogue about what exactly we needed. It is also a huge advantage that Henrik knows the in- dustry. He knows the workflows in a hotel, what happens in the kitchen, restaurant, guests, etc., and this affects the entire collaboration", says Karsten Felvang. Functional and beautiful at the same time He emphasizes that Steelwood Concept is a supplier where the functionality of the products is top notch and at the same time the products are nice to look at - and then you can have things made so that they are very personal and match the rest of the interior. Before the work in Steelwood Concept's workshop really got under way, Karsten Felvang had an initial dialogue with Hen- rik Bodhi about wishes and needs, and learned from his experiences with pre- vious buffets, he had several points he wanted to focus on - he has tried stand- ing with some laminate editions where corners were easily knocked off and the wheels wobbled. It was therefore im- portant to have a solution that was both solid and attractive. The buffets are of- ten heavily loaded and are transported around the 6-story building, and of course they must be able to withstand that. "It was also important to us that it is easy to get to the plates and the other service, and at the same time it must be easy for the guests to get around the buffet. And then they must be able to be closed so that they look nice when they are not in use", says Karsten Felvang, who with Steelwood Concept's buffets has got a solution that matches the flexibility that is pervasive in the restaurant landscape at Scandic Spec- trum, where room within room creates an absolutely ideal setting for intimate din- ners as well as larger parties. "It will be quite unique to create such a solution that is mobile and can be moved around", concludes Karsten Felvang. Not just a standard solution And according to Karsten Felvang, a lot of work has been done on flexibility. "The buffets are multifunctional and it just works so well. They are easy to 're- build' regardless of whether the need is a breakfast buffet, lunch or banquet. P R O J E C T I N T E R V I E W At the luxury hotel NH Collection Copenhagen, every detail has been thought of - including their trollys, which are custom-made by Steelwood Concept. Enjoying a drink at ROOF - NH Collection Copenhagen’s rooftop bar is an experi- ence out of the ordinary. And the wow ex- perience is not reserved for the top floor but goes through the entire hotel. Rooms as well as the lobby, restaurant and lounge areas breathes luxury, and de- licious materials such as leather, wood and textiles in a palette of natural colors are used again and again, inviting you to sit back and relax under beautiful skylights that are dimmed in the evening when the first cocktails are served. The hotel has a large business segment, but also lots of both Danish and foreign tourists that check into one of the 394 rooms, which showcase the absolute best in both Scandinavian and interna- tional design. Kitchen, machines and various equipment are also of high quality – the same applies to the hotel’s trollys, which are used every day throughout the house to transport everything from food to tableware, and which are custom-made by Steelwood Concept. “When the hotel opened, we had some standard trollys delivered, and it wasn’t many days before the first two had bro- ken down. In a busy everyday life, it’s clear that it’s tempting to overload, and of course it doesn’t work, but conversely you have to expect that they can last, but these couldn’t, and I therefore contacted Henrik Bodhi from Steelwood Concept for to hear if he could be helpful with a solution”, says F&B Manager at NH Col- lection Copenhagen, Hasse Fridh, who already had a fairly clear idea of what he needed before the first meeting. ”I DIDN’T BUY A PRODUCT - I GOT A TAILOR-MADE SOLUTION” Hasse Fridh F&B Manager, NH Collection Copenhagen W E I V R E T N I T C E J O R P W E I V R E T N I T C E J O R P 6 6 S T E E LW O O D C O N C E P T S T E E LW O O D C O N C E P T 6 7
Mustn’t be clumsy Among other things, it was a must that the design should consider the opera- tional aspect without compromising on the aesthetics, so that the trolly could fit into the hotel’s exclusive environment and function as a form of furniture at the same time as the functionality was top notch. “When someone like me has a lot of re- quirements for functionality, there is al- ways a risk that the balance tips and the expression become clumsy, and there- fore it was important to emphasize that it was not enough to think in terms of transport from A to B. I agree that it is difficult to make such a trolly beautiful straight away, and the challenge was to find out how it could be designed to fit in”, says Hasse Fridh. He has previously been involved in similar projects and knows from experience that it is alpha & omega of a good collabora- tion that the consultant listens and un- derstands what is being said. And so did Henrik Bodhi. “We had a really good dialogue, and Hen- rik took my thoughts and ideas and went home and drew, and then we talked again. Both Henrik Bodhi and his colleague Ricky Leth really rose to the challenge and were also able to make me smarter. We adjusted a little on the size along the way to achieve the best possible flexibility, and we have worked with the height, which ended up being 1050 mm, which means that the employees do not have to walk and bend their backs, and the trollys are fitted with ergonomic handles”, says Hasse. Not a product but a solution All the way from the first drawings to the finished cart, as desired, the focus has been on functionality as well as quali- ty and aesthetics, and even though the trolly can handle +200 kilos, they have a light expression and blend in nicely, whether they are rolling through the lob- W E I V R E T N I T C E J O R P by or a conference room. We selected the black color version and it was a conscious choice, because it is suitably muted and blends in well with the rest of the interi- or, and if you place the trolly in a corner, it does not create unnecessary attention. “I didn’t just buy a product. I have bought a tailor-made solution and I think it works really well when you consider that the trolly has to be able to do everything, from transporting beer and water to cleaning up room service and fitting into a conference room or the restaurant”. And speaking of conference rooms, four trollys are supplied with sides, which al- lows the trollys to be turned around, so that dirty plates and empty bottles that must be cleared off, on an ongoing basis in the restaurant, conference room and lounge, so all is hidden from our guests. “And another advantage of the sides is that you can move around the house with the trollys without guest are able to see that we are driving around with rubbish”, says Hasse Fridh, who describes the col- laboration with Steelwood Concept as fantastic. The trolly fits in nicely “Henrik understood the task, and we got a trolly made that fits in beautifully”, says Hasse, who makes no secret of the fact that he is a determined gentleman, and when you place an order of that mag- nitude that he has done, then demands and expectations are high, and they have been met in full - and the good coopera- tion continues.
